3rd Annual Tourmakeady Challenge 2019
34km challenge walk that starts and finishes at the Ionad Spóirt
This is a 34km
challenge walk that starts and finishes at the Ionad Spóirt in the beautiful
area of Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, Co. Mayo.
The walk follows very
quiet backroads that afford participants spectacular views of Loughs Mask,
Corrib and Carra, Croagh Patrick and the Nephin range, the Maumturks and Partry
Mountains, and the wild, open, unspoiled landscapes of southwest Mayo.
The terrain is firm
underfoot and is all on paved roads with the exception of a 1.5km section along
a cross-country trail. There will be support vehicles to carry your
gear and supplies so it is recommended that you bring a change of footwear.
The route is undulating
but there is a steady incline between the 25km to 30km markers, after which the
remaining 4km of the walk is all downhill and rewarded with a panoramic vista
over Loughs Mask and Corrib and the plains of Mayo.
Shower facilities and
refreshments are available at the end of the walk in the comfortable new Ionad
Spóirt building in Tuar Mhic Éadaigh.
The proceeds of the
walk will be divided equally between the Mayo Cancer Support Association (Rock
Rose House) and Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Handball Club.
